Web security

How we help protect you:

This website is protected by a comprehensive set of security measures, providing you with a high level of protection to allow you to make transactions online with confidence.

Key features include:

Transport Layer Security (TLS) protection

The secure connection between your browser and this website uses a technology called Transport Layer Security (TLS). This is a well-respected technology that was developed as an enhancement to Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protection. This website uses certificates which generate security "keys" so you can verify you are connected to the correct website.

Security PINs

Access to your member account information on this website is protected via Personal Identification Number 'PIN' level security, with each member issued a Member Number and unique PIN. This system meets stringent security practices, allowing only limited incorrect attempts to sign-in before your account is 'locked'.

Data encryption

Encryption prevents unauthorised users from accessing your data, by encoding the information that is shared between your computer and our system.

To ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your personal details, all data transmitted either to or from the website is protected via 128 bit encryption (DigiSign), which is currently the highest level of protection available and is the industry standard for online banking.

Firewall protection

This website is hosted on Mercer's server which is protected by a state of the art firewall as well as robust switching technology. Confidential member data is at all times secured behind the firewall.

Automatic time-out

Your session will automatically timeout after 20 minutes if it is left unattended, and you will be logged out of your account. This feature is designed to protect your account from others accessing it if you are called away from your computer unexpectedly. We recommend that you always sign out of your account and close the browser if you need to leave your computer.

Please note that Mercer will never send emails to members to verify confidential, personal or account information. You should never respond to any emails of this nature and should report any such emails by contacting us.

How you can help:

Keep your PIN secure

It is important that you help protect your personal information by not disclosing your PIN or Member Number to any other persons. You should contact us immediately if you believe there has been any unauthorised usage of your PIN.

To help keep your PIN secure, follow the below steps:

  1. Never share your PIN or other passwords with anyone.
  2. Change your PIN regularly.
  3. Do not select a PIN that will be easy for another person to guess (ie do not use your birth date or postcode or similar).
  4. Do not write your PIN down anywhere, even if disguised, or carry it in your wallet or purse.

Protect your computer

Mercer recommends that you install anti-virus software on your computer and consider firewall protection against unauthorised access. You should regularly update any software of this nature to help increase the security of your computer system.

Signing in and out of your account

We recommend that you:

  • Always sign in to this website by typing the full URL in the address bar of your browser
  • Always sign out of your Internet account by using the 'sign out' button provided within the site, and
  • Close the browser after you have signed out of your account (click on the 'x' icon in the top right hand corner of the screen).

These precautions are particularly important if you are using a computer that is shared with someone else, or which can be publicly accessed (as in an Internet café).

If you are not confident of the security of the computer you are using, you can always access your personal account details by contacting us.
