The Combo Option

Provided by Mercer.

You can be a member of In-Tandem and of KiwiSaver and enjoy the benefits of both schemes.

KiwiSaver is a voluntary, work-based savings initiative launched on 1 July 2007 which aims to make regular savings for retirement easier for New Zealanders.

A range of incentives is available to members of KiwiSaver schemes, for example:

  • The Government matches member contributions to KiwiSaver with a member tax credit paid into the scheme, up to a maximum of $10 per week per member or $521.43 per year.
  • After three or more years of membership some first home buyers may be eligible for a home deposit subsidy and/or to make a withdrawal from their KiwiSaver scheme savings. If you have owned a home before, in some circumstances you may still be eligible to withdraw your savings. Your scheme provider may require you to contact Housing New Zealand to determine if you're in the same financial position as a first home buyer.

The Combo Option allows you to be a member of both schemes without making any additional contributions. A portion of your contribution to In-Tandem and a portion of Westpac's contribution to In-Tandem is diverted to KiwiSaver. If you're not eligible for a company contribution to In-Tandem, you will receive a 3% employer contribution into KiwiSaver.

Here's how the contributions are split up:

  Employee contributions Employer contributions
In-Tandem KiwiSaver Total In-Tandem KiwiSaver Total
Management 1.8% 3.0% 4.8% 7.0% 3.0% 10.0%
less than 2 years' service 1.0% 3.0% 4.0% 0.0% 3.0% 3.0%
more than 2 years' service 1.0% 3.0% 4.0% 3.0% 3.0% 6.0%
Fixed term/Casual 1.0% 3.0% 4.0% 0.0% 3.0% 3.0%

To obtain the current balance of your KiwiSaver account, please contact your KiwiSaver provider directly. If your KiwiSaver provider is Westpac, your balance is available through internet banking.
